The issue date will be different on the newer certificate.

I've not seen anything that says the old certificate is no good
anymore. When I renew my CFI I dread getting the new certificate. I
suspect they'll send 2 or 3 again like when they changed the SSN. My
wallet isn't big enough to carry 3 hard plastic certificates. Maybe
they'll learn how to pull all certificates on one card.
