Actually, "opt out" is a real crock. There's no guarantee that the FAA takes any

special action on opt out requests (although they do sometimes).

I emailed them according to their instructions for opting out the day
I found my address online. I received this response:

Mr. Perkins,

I have input a code into your airman record which will indicate that you do not wish to have your address made available to the

general public.

Yes, I've done that too, but that's not what the ACT says. The act says I can chose to be completely
removed from the public dissemintation.

The Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century, in addition to other statutory'
requirements, requires us to make airmen CERTIFICATE information available to the public.

The above is complete bull**** and indicative of the stupidity and corruption inherent in the
FAA. There is NO requirement that htey make the pilot information available (and many pilots
are omitted). AIR-21 says EXACTLY the opposite from what they are espousing. It specifically
says that the information must be omitted at the request of the pilot. FURTHERMORE, the
information released is in exceess of what AIR-21 specifically allows. Note that makes the
FAA in violation of the privacy act. The wording in AIR-21 provides a specific necessary
exemption for them.
