Just paid 200 for a IFR. Our shop doesn't differentiate between IFR and VFR

The shop I use charges $60 for a VFR check, and $180 for an IFR check.
There is more work to the IFR check as I understand it.
BTW: I was scheduling a checkride for a student this summer and asked
her to ensure her transponder check was current (she only flys VFR).
We found the last one was more than 5 years ago and her checkride was
the next day. She got really lucky to find a shop to do it. The reason
I thought to double check was because the examiner called me up to
tell me of this last minute opening because some "fool" showed up for
his private checkride without a current transponder inspection.

!!
Probably the most overlooked inspection for the VFR pilot. Since the
ELT usually gets done by the IA during annual, people assume the
transponder is too. The problem is that the average IA isn't licensed
to do the transponder check.
