The 196 DOES store altitude in the track. You can view the track on the
map. If you select the track, you can then select: view | profile and see
the altitude profile for the track. You can also look in the log table.
It's all in the user's manual which can be downloaded from Garmin's web
site.
Well, looks like I have to be satisfied with time, speed and position
information with the 195. It would have been nice to log the altitude and
play it back later.
