They have a comment link on their website, so we should all respond to
it. BTW, it is not the Orlando paper, but a TV station, channel 2, which
aired the hit piece last night. It wasn't as bad as the CBS piece of
garbage, because they gave perfunctory time to Phil Boyer of AOPA,
unlike CBS, but it was STILL a hit piece!

Apparently, 'tis the season:

LOCAL TV STATIONS TARGET GA SECURITY TO BOOST RATINGS
In recent weeks, AOPA has contacted TV stations across the country
after being alerted (usually by members) that they were working on
stories about "lax" security at general aviation airports. The
wave of stories is no coincidence. It's the May "sweeps" period,
that time of year when stations will do anything to get the best
possible ratings. "Don't make it easy for them," said AOPA
President Phil Boyer, a former TV senior executive who knows all
the tricks of the trade. "Take sensible steps to secure your
aircraft. Follow all of the Airport Watch guidelines (

Set up a buddy system to check on the aircraft that is tied down
or hangared near yours. In addition to denying the media
opportunities for stories, you'll also deny unauthorized access to
your aircraft." For more, see (
