How about Van's RV-10? Cessna could buy the design from Van's and
certify it.
This might be a win-win, as Cessna would receive most of the r&d already
done for a dandy new design, and Van's could pick up a nice chunk of
change and still retain rights to produce experimental kits.
I would think that the certification process would be rather expensive and
the market probably wouldn't justify it. Also, a lot of the appeal of the
design is the ability to customize it and do all sorts of little
modifications. You can't really do that with a certified aircraft.
Besides, if the 10 handles anything remotely like the other RV's, it would
be vastly different than anything Cessna had made for general public use...
I think some people would get themselves in trouble trying to fly it.
