if you prefer the south route.. but don't trust Mammoth..
you can easily cross the mountains into Lake Isabella, Kern Valley, then
Inyokern (IYK) and direct to Las Vegas, crossing over "Red Rocks" between Mt
Charleston and Mt Potosi. Direct to VGT, Right base Rw 12R or straight in on
Rwy 7, get down early to stay clear of the ClassB
Joshua Appch will either allow you through or south of the China Lake
restricted airspace, if the Ft Irwin airspace is hot then you'll have to
"shoot the Trona Gap" and proceed to LAS across the southern part of Death
Valley. Joshua Appch can see you most of the way at about 10,000MSL.
I've never had problems on weekends in the China Lake airspace about 5000ft
AGL.
This time of the year.. go early.. across the mountains before the CUs build
up. We are in monsoon season.

Agreed. the airspace along J110 going through China Lake is hot
Monday through Friday, but is free for use over the weekend. That would
be why you were able to head through it. But definitely go early on
this one; not only because of the monsoonal flow, but density altitude
will come into play.
