But sadly, reality.

I'll give an example, of the pressure the lawsuit happy public has put the
school board under.

A few years back, I let a student run a table saw, for just a couple cuts,
without a guard on it. He screwed up and left the blade too high. The wood
kicked, and in his hurry to get away from it, he stuck his other hand into
the blade. It cost him part of one finger.

He got a few hundred thousand settlement, when he was as much (or more) at
fault as the school, and me. The school has told me that if there is ever
one more serious accident, they will close down the wood shop, because the
insurance cost will be too much to be able to afford. (the premium went up
by about double, already)

Absurd is just *one* word that comes to mind.
