Is there any setting
that will prevent the scenery from just "popping" into view as you fly
toward it. It is pretty non-realistic the way this happens.

Maybe this is not the answer you were looking for, but. When flying a
simulator, I just want to see what is really there, so I turn generated
scenery down to zero. I guess that would prevent the non-realistic scenery
from popping into view. In other words, I am guessing that the known
scenery is presented differently. You can test that, unless you enjoy
seeing the fake/generated scenery.
