Tactical Pilot Charts (TPC) are very good for this:
US Tactical Pilot charts (TPC) Maps. These maps are perfect to
investigate terrain of a region. Heights are given in feet. All airports
even with the right heading of the runway and much other flight relevant
information are marked. As is it made for Pilots flying relatively quick
over terrain, the built up area information as well as the road network
information is quite basic on these maps.
