I have 2 1530 and a 1550. One of my 1530 has developed a problem
where the contrast goes very low but is still setable in the range of
the contrast adjustment. I found that the constrast changed when the
case was flexed slightly. After that I found that both 1530s had a
crack in the front case side just slightly higher than the main
battery door.

I suspect that the case crack is a design problem and that it has
resulted it an intermittent contact to the display module. I'll be
very interested to hear if anyone has opened one up and if it worked
after it was put back together.
