That's what I thought. Then FS2002 sucks :-(

Can't one make some changes in the config files to make
crash tollerance more realistic?

500 ft/min are like a free fall from 1 ft. It would not destroy the
airplane, at least if you land on the main gear.
Try 1000 ft/min, this is like a fall from 4 ft. and more likely to
cause permanent damage.
