Heard on the air
Man, talk about ATC being nice to pilots. I was heading into Providence
(RI) earlier today. Weather was VFR, but there was just enough cloud
around that lots of instrument students were out chasing some benign IMC
time (that's what we were doing).
There's some guy who's obviously having trouble navigating. The approach
controller has given him a number of subtle and not-so-subtle (but still
polite) hints, of the "confirm you're on victor-xxx, I show you about N
miles south of the airway centerline" variety.
Then he says something along the lines of, "I know you're doing training,
but would you be willing to accept a vector back to the airway? If I could
get you back on the airway, it would really make things easier for me".
