You don't need an endorsement for any of the CFI writtens - 14 CFR 61.183
makes no mention of an endorsment for any knowledge test. The only
endorsement mentioned is related to FOI and that's only needed prior to the
practical.

True, and if you say you are interested in a CGI certificate you don't
even need an endorsement for the FOI. In fact, none of the testing
centers here require an endorsement for the FOI because that is such a
huge hole.
