I'm going to DXR (Danbury) from ROC (Rochester) on Saturday. There is a STAR
for Danbury, NOBBI THREE, that has a transition starting at Rockdale. Here's
the question:

Should I file the STAR, even though it is a little out of the way, or should
I file a more direct route. If I file something more direct, am I likely to
get the STAR?

Don't spend too many ergs worrying about what to file. It's the clearance you
get that counts, not the one you file.

Whether or not you're cleared for the STAR depends on the habits of the
particular approach control. Someone with local knowledge might be able to say
what clearance you're likely to get, but that still has little to do with what
you file.

File what you want to fly. Fly what you're cleared for.
