When an airport is reported as deicing the acceptance rate and
departure rate is also provided. Why is this? How does deicing affect
AR and DR? If an airport is deicing is is more likely that arrivals and
departures will be delayed?
If de-icing is required, then the weather is usually bad. Bad weather brings
inherent delays on it's own. Add the time required for de-icing (20 minutes
to an hour or more) to the time spent sitting in line waiting for a
departure slot due to traffic saturation because of increased aircraft
seperation. Sometimes, if you are held too long for a departure slot, you
have to de-ice again. Sometimes you burn so much fuel while waiting that you
have to return to the gate for more fuel and then you have to de-ice again
because of the increased time of delay.
D. It's a snowball effect. :-)
