I've told the story before. Probably a number of times, but it's my
favorite as to flying Young Eagles.

Nice story, Roger.

My most memorable Young Eagles flight was when I had a CAP cadet of about 15 in
the front seat and two younger kids (friends) in the back. As we were taxiing
out for takeoff, the kids in back realized that they could hear themselves in
the headphones over the intercom.

They started...howling. Making noises like sirens. They howled to the end of
the runway, howled during runup, howled as we taxied onto the runway.

Just before dropping the hammer on the Stinson's mighty Franklin, I reached over
and turned the intercom volume all the way down.

I could (just barely) hear the howls continue for a moment. Then, over the
noise of engine, I could hear shouts of,

"HEY MISTER! WE CAN'T HEAR OURSELVES! HEY MISTER! WE CAN'T HEAR OURSELVES!"

....all the way on climbout.

I glanced at the CAP cadet with a little grin. The youngster shook his head
sternly, distancing him self from the undisciplined rabble back in coach.
