Bax Seat :was A serious proposal

I believe the last "Bax Seat" written by Gordon Baxter appeared in the
December 1998 issue of "Flying".
An original "Bax Seat" appeared in the January 1998 issue of "Flying",
there's no mention of retirement. The February issue had a "Bax Seat" that
originally appeared in "Flying" in August 1983. The following month was an
original, again no mention of retirement. April and May were reruns, the
June 1998 column was an original, without any hint of retirement. In July
1998 the column was no longer "Bax Seat", it was "Best of Baxter". There
was a note at the end of the column explaining that Bax's "condition" had
been acting up lately, and that while they awaited his next new column "Best
of Baxter" would run in its place. "Best of Baxter" appeared every month
until December 1998 saw a new "Bax Seat" column., but still no word on
retirement. "Best of Baxter" appeared from January through July 1999. A
new "Bax Seat" appeared in the August 1999 issue, but it wasn't written by
Gordon Baxter, it was written by Mike Trahan. The column was about a recent
visit with Bax and a ride in Trahan's Skylane. "Best of Baxter" appeared
monthly from September 1999 through January 2000. Mac McClellan's January
2000 column explained that the "Best of Baxter" appearing in that issue
would be the last one and that there would be no more new "Bax Seat" either.
His medical condition simply did not allow him to write.
Maybe I'm hallucinating then. I just thought I remembered a "hanging up
my hat" column.
