according to this report..."tower reportedly lost contact with the craft

Well, AP did a better job --

BOSTON The Coast Guard is searching for a private plane that was reported
missing off the coast of Nantucket today. A spokesman for the Federal Aviation
Administration says the twin-engine Beechcraft was flying at an altitude of 200
feet about two-and-a-half miles from Nantucket Memorial Airport when it
disappeared from radar.

The unidentified pilot did not issue a distress signal before the plane went
missing.

The aircraft was coming from New York and had been cleared to land on Nantucket.
Coast Guard spokeswoman Kelly Newlin says there was no immediate sign of any
wreckage in the water or on land.

She also says it appears the pilot was the only person aboard the six-passenger
plane.

The aircraft is registered to Herradura Incorporated of New York.

The Coast Guard dispatched a Falcon jet and a cutter to join the search.
