extension. In the options for this extension is a tab for Google Groups.
Check the "Remove Ads" check box and no more ads. This extension will
remove ads for any of the Google search engines.

I realize that the point of your post was probably a bit more cerebral, but
in the event that you want ad-free group browsing, there you go.
