zooms SnF mini rant
Very interesting...I'll give this a look. Wouldn't that be funny if
Time didn't confirm the source? Right off the bat, ATC tapes would
have collected something of his presence.
I worked Production Control at Douglas at the time that they brought
the rudder and the vertical stablizer in after the accident. No sign
of fire. The photos of the aircraft pretty much confirmed what the
American Airlines DC-10 pilots saw that were behind the aircraft.
There was a trail of smoke, beginning at their altitude down to the
crash site, which was on fire at ground level, but not a plume nor a
fireball. The aircraft that hit the Aeromexico jet didn't burn, and
the Aeromexico jet wasn't a fireball in the photos taken of the
aircraft before it hit. I recently met one of the photographers who
got pictures of the aircraft as it crashed. The crash photography was
published within 24 hours here in Los Angeles. Anyone could have
concocted a story based on the photography.
Apparently Jim did, because there was no fireball as I recall. The
photos should be on the web to refresh my memory. The other
information is verifiable, true or false.
A very interesting story...worth looking into, to be sure.
