recreational pilot, in my case) and must carry whatever that ticket
requires him to carry. So I must have my recreational certificate in
my possession, along with my log book. (I believe PPs don't need to
have the logbook.)

In other words, you aren't giving up your certificate. You're
exercising it under a new set of rules.

(Obviously one doesn't need to carry the medical certificate. I'm not
sure about the SODA, one of which I happen to have. Likely I'll just
leave these in their place of honor in the logbook.)
