Default Questions about LX 1600

How is it as a component of a system coupled with SeeYou or WinPilot or
flyWithCE? Any preferences/problems with any of those applications? If
the PDA dies, is the LX 1600 still functional using the four push
buttons?

XCsoar, an open source PDA navigation and final glide system, was
originally developed by a club mate who has an LX160 in his glider. He
can enter task, MC, water and bug information in XCSoar, which passes it
to the LX160. IIRC the same would apply to an LX1600 and the vario will
still work if the PDA dies.

XCSoar works with pretty much any GPS that can output NMEA sentences.
I've run it with Garmin model II+ and 35 (blind) receivers. Both worked
just fine.

Caveats: I'm an SDI C4 fan, so I haven't flown with any LX vario.
I have a copy of XCSoar and like what I've seen of it but, because
I'll need to modify it to talk to my C4, I haven't yet flown with it.
Next season....
