up a rig where I pump fuel into the injectors, and perhaps use a piece of
cardboard 12 inches from the injectors to see what the spray pattern looks
like after a shot of fuel. I would be looking for uniformity of pattern from
all injectors.

Am I missing something else I should look for?

Years ago while in the USAF as a jet engine mechanic we used a stand
where the nozzles were screwed into a fixture vertical with a clear
Plexiglas panel over the nozzles approximately 6" which allowed us to
inspect the spray pattern, if one was off we immersed the injector in
a de carbon mixture and retried the pattern. One thing that you should
remember is the injector tips are fragile, if you must attempt to
remove any hard deposits use a orange stick or a tampico brush. Good
luck, please remember this is how it was done in the 60's perhaps a
newer and better method has been devised
