El Dorado Arkansas got some incredible news yesterday. So if you have
kids
in school you might want to think about moving here.

That is a fantastic guesture from a private company. but one has to
wonder
why a country so wealthy needs to rely on private generosity to educate
its
young. When I went to Uni 25 years ago here in Oz it was free to all.
It wasn't free, fellow.
It's called parasitism.
Not at all. A civilised society needs educated people in all fields. It
cant function without doctors , teachers engineers etc etc. You educate
people and they go on to make important contributions to society and of
course pay tax. It just happens that some jobs require University training.
You know it is funny that no one ever argues about the taxpayer footing the
bill for someone to go to the police academy to be trained or to ( back to
aviation) an airforce pilot to be trained to fly but people expect a teacher
to pay for his own training which happens to be in University ( and then
work for peanuts doing an essential role for the community after that).
Where is the logic there? It certainly is parasitism ( by society not the
teacher ). A smart society will fill its Universities with smart people,
not rich people.
A previous poster commented about the US system pumping out graduates that
cant read.
I note one George Dubbya is a graduate of both Yale and Harvard.... say no
more.
