Default RAAF Liberator bombing up

G'day Dave

This Liberator (B-24J) belongs to No. 24 (B) Squadron, R.A.A.F. It
operated the type from June 1944 through to the end of the war in the
Southwest Pacifica area.

Cheers...Chris

G'day Chris,

Yep, my father was in 24 Squadron from the late '50s. All the RAAF
Vultee Vengeance squadrons upgraded to B-24s around '44, talk about a
culture shock.

24 Squadron started with Wirraways at the beginning of the war, then went
through Aircobras, Spitfires, Vengeances, B-24s & post war onto P-51s and
worked with Canberras until about 1960.

When I was in Darwin for a short while in '87 I found a slab of B-24
fuselage side in a local museum's junkyard. It didn't have much to
identify it, beyond the GR.
