I only found that registration or similar searches work by accident, I was
trying to discover the aircraft behind a tail code and in exasperation gave
it a try and I was pleasantly suprised when the results included what I was
looking for.

I have also found that http://homepage.ntlworld.com/airnet/ is a great start
for information.
