And yet you steadfastly refuse to run or request appointment (however your
city is structured)?
I know I've already told you this, but I'll mention it here again.
Several years ago I was asked to apply by the airport commission
president at the time. The city council -- whose members make the
appointment decisions -- did not select me.
Since then I have been told that I was encouraged to apply only so
that there was the appearance of a choice.
Rather then become frustrated, I chose to found and administer our
airport advocacy group, Friends of Iowa City Airport. With almost 300
members, this non-profit group has been very successful at helping to
keep our airport open and strong.
But we haven't been able to save that old hangar, dammit.

I had a similar situation. I am on the city airport advisory board. No
power, but we make recommendations to the City Coucil. I had been
chairman for 5 years and finally had to sit out. When I reapplied, I
couldn't seem to see that I was getting re appointed. Found out it was
being help for something like I was too much of an airport advocate.
Well.... I finally got reappointed. Just love politics. The board is 7
with no more than 3 pilots. That's fair so as not to "stack" the board.
10 years with the airport we have been trying to build hangars. We just
might get started this year.
