Default LCD Display Readability

Color, grey-scale or black & white?
What make/model and type of screen do you use and what affects its
"viewability"?

I use a Compac iPAQ with "Anywhere Map", "Ozi Explorer", and "Pocket
FMS". The iPAQ has a color "transflective" screen and is practically
useless in a bright cockpit. Sometimes, I am better off turning off
the backlight and just putting the screen in direct sunlight.

My iPAQ is in a Bluetooth sleeve and there is a Bluetooth GPS Rx
Velcro'ed to the windshield, so the iPAQ can be moved anywhere in the
cockpit without losing (did I spell that correctly?)the signal. This
is handy when trying to locate the screen for the best visibility.

I have the Tampa TAC chart loaded in "Ozi Explorer", All of Florida in
"PocketFMS" and of course all of the US in "Anywhere Map". "Anywhere
Map" has less background clutter than the other two and therefore has
better contrast for visibility.

I have replaced the original Lipo battery in the iPAQ with one of twice
the capacity, but battery life using the backlight is still only about
two hrs.
