Why not?


Because it's likely to lead to either a lengthy exchange or multiple
replies - and render the frequency unusable. It is, of course,
dependent on the situation. If the channel is dead quiet, ask away.
However, if you are at a place like my home airport, you have to
listen to the chatter from several other airports (122.8, naturally),
and any unnecessary use really messes things up.
