I highly recommend a visit to McMinville, Oregon's Golden Valley Brewery.
Excellent brew-pub with great food. They have a generous sample tray of
their products, with descriptions of the beers and ingredients, that I had
the pleasure of drinking my way through. Good Beer.

The FBO (at least a couple of years ago) had an ex-police black&white sedan
as a courtesty vehicle, with obligatory outboard swiveling searchlight.
Park that on the side of the road and watch the brake lights show!

Another great reason to visit McMinville is the Evergreen Aviation Museum,
home of the Spruce Goose as well as a superb collection of other aircraft.
You can walk to it from the airport - or alternately take your ex-police car
over there on the way to the hotel.

And a short flight west over the hills takes you to the Tillamook Air Museum
on the Oregon coast, with another great collection of aircraft housed in a
genuine WWII blimp hanger - the largest wooden structure in the world. The
building itself is awe inspiring - I remember they measure the roof area
(all wood) in acres.

At that point, you're at a perfect launching point for flying the Pacific
coast - a fantastic air adventure in itself.

As I'm sitting her supping it (and it's quite good, actually, although
I'm not sure that "pomegranate juice" has any business in beer), I
started to think about all the "aviation beers" I've imbibed over the
years.

For some strange reason, brewers -- especially microbrewers -- seem to
be enamored with aviation. Can you name any of your local "aviation
ales"?

Better yet, can you bring any of them to the "Rec.Aviation H.O.P.S.
Party" at our campsite during Oshkosh, for all to enjoy?
