Broken main spar repai
I have repaired a couple of broken spars (severed), but they were near
the tip, like 60" in. The only authorization I have ever seen was in a
Schleicher Repair manual which stated; 100:1 scarf angle at the tip
and 400:1 at the root. On a 15 meter bird with a 1/2 deep spar cap,
thats 200" or 16.6 feet (2/3 semi-span)! Of course the skin must be
removed to expose the spar cap. The other wing can be used to set the
jig and your work can be tested by sand bagging it to 5.3 G's. Is it
economically viable? NO!

Does anybody has ever seen a fiberglass glider which was repaired
after a complete main spar damage at around 2m from the root-rib ?
