Danbury, Connecticut has a nice airport near a rail link to the city.
Yeah, there are smaller airports available. But consider accounting
for your own time when comparing costs of alternatives. Sure, landing
at KTEB, KEWR, or KLGA may take 20-200 bucks to park, but you get to
Manhattan in half an hour.
DXR is a decent distance by cab from the rail station. The train
isn't that cheap, and it dosen't run as often as others around NYC.
If you're thinking of landing at DXR, you would do better to use HPN. It's
a 10 minute cab ride to the White Plains train station. Trains run much
more frequently to White Plains than to Danbury, and the trip to Grand
Central is probably half the time once you're on a train. At peak times,
there's 10-12 trains an hour to/from White Plains. Many of them run
express and take a half hour. Even in the middle of the day there's 3 or 4
an hour to White Plains. Check the Metro North schedules at
http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_form.cfm.
If you are flying into DXR, I would strongly recommend all arrivals and
departures be done during daylight, or use instrument procedures, if you're
not familiar with the airport.
