This photo looks more like a formation of Chinese CJ=6s and Yak 52s.
Well, now that would explain the callsign, wouldn't it! I guess I'm
flunking spotter school, but thanks for the catch. I had seen six
Yaks come in, but I didn't know there were enough for such a big
formation (several ships aren't even in the picture). I'm unfamiliar
with the CJ6--is it Yak-like?
The CJ-6 is Yak-like and falls under the umbrella of the Yak Pilots
Assn. It is not a Chinese copy of the yak, but it has a similar
fuselage/engine setup from aft of the cockpit forward. it also has an
entirely different wing, landing gear and tail and outperforms its Yak
counterpart.
