What must I do/bring as a USA licensed glider pilot in order to fly
gliders in Australia?
Your log books.
Where are you planning to fly?
What would you like to fly.
What are you goals like 500 km 750 or 1000km.
When are you comming.
Are you arriving Sydney Brisbane Melbourne or Perth ?
You'll need to become a visiting member of your host club, and also

a temporary member of GFA (Gliding Federation of Australia).
www.gfa.org.au
It will
take the customary field check and checkout in the glider you'll be
flying, a good sense of humor, and probably a "shout" at the clubhouse
Yes we are licenced for shouts.
that evening. And (after you're over the jet lag) away you go!

As gliding is governed by the GFA not CASA (FAA equivalent) it's
nothing like doing it the other way around.
Incidentally, for power pilots there is a "Special Pilot's Licence"
issued by CASA.
www.casa.gov.au
It allows your valid USA power pilots license and
medical to be used in Australia. There are likely now security checks
that must be done before the SPL is issued, but may be worth it for
next time.
