Not "all the time." So far as I can recall, foo fighters were reported
ONLY by airmen in the ETO (European Theatre of Operations) during allied
bombing raids during WW II.

They were described as "balls of fire" and at first thought to be some
new German defensive weapon. However, I can recall no reports they ever
did any damage to allied aircraft.

Hmmm, 19 year old pilot. Been up for 16 hours. Been in the air for 8
hours. Its late, its dark and he's afraid of Germans coming out of the
sky. Who wouldn't see things?
