Question for all the pro aviation photographers in this group...

This question is directed to all the pro aviation photographers in this
newsgroup. You know who you are, the ones who every few months will
pull a contract for an airlines, sell a few prints to an owner, perhaps
shoot a local FOB for a contract.
What I am curious about is how do you market yourselves? How frequently
do you pull a lucrative contract?
I am asking because while we endure the cold winter months (in the
northern hemisphere) I am looking for new methods, or possible old
methods rediscovered for marketing my own business. So far much of what
I have pulled this past year has been word of mouth as opposed to any
direct marketing of my skills. Now granted a couple of them where very
lucrative but no where near strong enough to consider quitting my real
job. I have tried going door to door but if I even managed to get a
smile from the receptionist I thought I was doing very well. In the one
or two instances when I was doing the door to door bit the usually
responses where "holy **** you are really good"... Unfortunately the
only thing conspicuous after the meeting was the silence on my cell
phone...
Maybe you should contact the photographers at
airliners.com and ask them. They seem to be pros,
but how much money they make is another matter.
