Question for the group

Does anyone know what happens to all the aircraft when an airline
goes bankrupt and stops flying like ATA. Are the planes parked
where they last landed or parked in one of the desert areas out
west until sold. I know ATA had a fairly new fleet including the
B757s and a few new B737-900s.
There are usually quite a few parked and mothballed at the
Victorville Airport (KVCV) in California's High Desert. I noticed
them during my last Angel Flight there.
Google Earth shows several planes:
34.5974722 / -117.3830000
