How anyone can get a float plane model to land safely on
water is beyond me.

It actually is easier to land on water, than on the land, IMHO

You just fly it down to the water, then start slowing, and let it settle
onto the water.

The key is having the floats (if it has pontoon type) set at the correct
angle. If you have the plane sitting on the water with the nose up too
much, when you try to land, the fronts of the floats dig in, then things
start to go very bad, very quickly. g
