Which Garmin would that be? They make several products.

They used to sell a GPS190 combo transceiver/GPS but I don't believe it sold
that well (although I was able to sell mine quite easily).

Well they make many items that could be considered radio/gps combos,
including the 496, 396, 430, and 530 and I'd have to answer that yes
those work well in airplanes.
