That's what I figured. It probably was done to provide the R/C pilot
something to reference while in flight. Little plane, low contrast, easy
to lose reference to it and have it fly away on you. Particularly when
it's moving at speed.

'Losing reference' for an RC model flier usually means losing track of the
model's orientation and pulling 'up' whilst inverted.
More bin bags of Balsa have been filled in that way! :-(
Can get expensive!
