Hi everybody, I am from Italy and will come to fly in California area
next year. I am following with great interest the wonderfull flights
from Crystal Ca / Mountain Valley all the way to the north basically
following HWY 395 . Where can I find a complete data base of
outlandings for that area ( see you and Zander ) ? How are
outlandings ? Do you guys usually go by airports ? Are there many
fields for landings outside airports? And what about the retrieve ?
Thanks - Maurizio
Carl Herold's database:

And of course the TurnPoint exchange where you can download various
databases:http://soaringweb.org/TP/NA.html
Look for California City, Truckee, and Tonopah (Cross Country Camp).
The later has the most landout options, including dirt roads, but is 6
years old.
The one in socalsoaring web site mentioned earlier looks most current,
I wonder if it is available in downloadable format on the TurnPoint
Exchange. John Leibacher can quickly generate downloadable files for
all flight computers if provided with the data.

Three or four years ago I was driving up 395 to Ridgeway. I came over
a low hill to find a 1-26 sitting on the highway. I braked hard and
backed to the top of the hill and turned on my 4-way flashers to warn
the next driver then ran ahead to pull the glider off the highway.
That incident could have had a sad outcome.
