Don't attribute too much reasoning power to them. They're simply the
unavoidable sludge that forms when the First Amendment mixes with the
Law of Unintended Consequences.

They're better known for picketing funerals of soldiers killed in
Iraq. They call it God's judgment on America for allowing gays to
live, and they brandish signs saying "Thank God for IEDs" and "God
Hates Fags". Googling Fred Phelps will offer the whole story.
