[ A UUEncoded file (Rolls-Royce thrust measuring rig.JPG) was included here. ]

More popularly known as the Flying Bedstead.

Two R-R Nenes for lift and puffer jets for directional control.

This picture shows the second rig, XK426, which flew on 12 November 1956
but crashed on 27 November 1957 on a tethered flight after hitting the
gantry and killing the pilot, Wg Cdr H G F Larson.

The surviving rig, XJ314, flew on 9 July 1953 tethered and on 3 August
1954 free. It completed 224 tethered and 16 free flights by December
1954. It is now in the Science Museum in London.
