The end of an era in British aviation as the Prime Minister axes the
Harrier fleet with immediate effect. So only foreigners will fly Britons
most iconic aircraft from now on.

Aye, bad move, a very bad & short sighted move :~(

Whilst I like the Harrier they are a niche aircraft with a limited
application. Great for Cold War UK and some typical wierd arse Marine crap
but not overly cost effective in any other roles.

Now that the Harriers are being shelved can someone stop Lockheed from
running the F-35 price into the stratosphere trying to get the STOVL version
into production? I've never seen an aircraft program where one minor variant
(minor as in sales) has disproportionally driven up the average cost for all
partner countries. Scrap the STOVL and the per unit price of the F-35 may go
back to something more tolerable.

As for the Marines, they are tough and can suck it up...
