Yep, another satisfied customer.
I learned to fly in the 2-33 and got my private and commercial
licenses in it. My memories of it are therefore bathed in a nice rosy
glow, but I want to go on record that Tubby the Trainer has many
virtues. If you can't manage to have fun in it, the fault is not with
the aircraft.
It's a nice ship to give rides in; it's pretty easy for first-timers
to get in and out of, comfortable to sit in, and visibility is good.
(From the front seat, that is. My friend Don Turner observed that
"Although the back seat is very uncomfortable, you can't see
anything." Well, nothing is perfect.)
It really is pretty safe. The elevator won't let you point the nose up
very sharply, and even when it does stall, it doesn't want to spin. I
know, I know, everyone needs spin training, but (in my view) low-time
students don't need a glider that's easy to spin.
It's pretty hard to break. Some of my early landing left dents in the
turf, but none in the glider.
The wheel brake actually works, a nice contrast to some more expensive
machines. I would rather be able to stop quickly than have to look for
something cheap to hit.
If you should land out in it, you will find out who your friends are.
Anyone who will help you dismantle and trailer this thing is a true
friend.
Anyway, long live the 2-33.
