This is exactly my concern. When you blow the canopy, I'm told it
often comes straight back, in which case you could (perhaps) catch the
flarm and the bracket in the head.

As well, thin bits of aluminum in the cockpit have inflicted some
nasty injuries in crash landings. I'd be disinclined to put something
like this in my cockpit.


The canopy on the ASH 26 E has a "Roeger hook" at the rear. When
jettisoned, the canopy pivots around the back edge and blows free over
the top of the glider. Ditto for the ASW 27 and many other gliders. If
you have a forward opening canopy and you don't have a "hook", your
manufacturer may have retrofit kit for your glider, and you should
consider installing it.

The "thin bits" in bumper's glider are an arm's length from his face,
and if they get to his face, he has far more serious problems, I think.
In any case, bending a smooth, rounded edge on it would be easy.
