I did the Jepp/AOPA course, actually learned a lot, but I'm also an active MEI-CFII too. Also made friends in the FSDO that offered to renew next time around for me. It was a time consuming pain, and all the paperwork was a hassle, but in a pinch it's not a bad way to think about regs again, especially all the new TSA/Homeland security requirements. Technically every CFI is supposed to take an online course annually at TSA website....I never knew that.
