Here is one of my shots taken at Paso Robles.
I see you're using a Nikon D300S...I have a Nikon CoolPix 630S (heh) and try
shooting airplanes whenever I see them. Yup...I see a plane's contrail at
30,000 feet and I'm trying to get a 'good' shot of it with my pocket camera and
its telephoto cranked all the way out!
Of course a CoolPix wasn't made for that but I keep on trying.
Spectacular shot! A testament to the camera and especially you the
photographer.
Thanks.
I make the assumption you were using a telephoto lens...about how high up and
far away was the plane?
Yup! I was using a Nikkor 70-300mm. It was making a high speed, low
level pass at ±800ft. For that shot the range was 400-500 yds.
This was earlier in the approach for that pass when they were about
1000 yds out on the other side of the airport.

It was a good day for shooting warbirds, and they cooperated with some
good low passes with P-51's, P-38L, B-25 and others.
....and then there was on the ground taxiing.
