(CNN) — This is the era of the glass and steel airport.
As if made from the same mold, shiny, glittering terminals have become a status
symbol for any city with aspirations.
But all of this is a world away from the remoteness of Russia's Arctic regions
and the Siberian wilderness.
Hopefully, the Trump family will get the opportunity to tour these
locales after he is impeached, convicted and recalled by Vladimir to
mother Russia.
Some of these remind me of the 'airport' I took my first flying lessons in the
60s...Davis CA...a short 1 inch thick asphalt runway, no tower (unicom...just a
radio that continuous broadcasts temp and barometric pressure) and a 'airport'
lounge' which was a small building about 30 feet long, no 'airport'
personnel...just a couple of vinyl covered couches...unlocked by someone in the
morning who came back in the evening and locked it up until the next day...and
closed on Sundays.
Attached is a pic of it...the pic was taken about 40 years AFTER I took my
lessons so the buildings on the left side didn't exist...it was all farm
land...runway's the same though.
It's the only airport actually owned by the University of California which has 9
campuses.
